The project was led by a council run day centre and a media cooperative. It comprised the delivery of three video training projects to people with learning difficulties and disabilities attending day centres. The project aimed to extend access and participation for the target group who may face barriers in taking up learning. The aim was to enable participants to gain new media and creative skills and knowledge (specifically video production skills), to enable learners to develop social, communication and team work skills, and to improve learners’ quality of life, self-esteem and confidence. One group produced a DVD on the history of how day services had evolved from institutions through to the present day centres and looking into the future. The second enabled learners to capture on film their experiences, strengths and weaknesses, how they view themselves and how they think they are viewed by others. The third group provided an animation film on bullying providing the participants with an opportunity to speak about their past experiences of bullying and raising equality and diversity awareness.
