The University of East London led a project that aimed to engage the local community through informal learning activities held in the Thurrock Learning Shop, a vacant high street space repurposed as a community learning venue. A series of seven events were held including a local history event, seasonal arts and crafts, a celebration of International Women’s Day and a photography session. This variety drew a wide range of learners, including parents and children, older learners and members of black and ethnic minorities. Participants were able to access information about further learning opportunities through the Learning Shop.
