Roots 4 Growth
Hampshire County Council
This project aimed to map existing learning opportunities across Hampshire and, where these were lacking, provide new learning opportunities predominantly to older learners - retired people aged 50 and older. The particularly aimed to engage those who found existing learning opportunities inaccessible or inappropriate for them. They aimed to encourage self-organised groups and self-sustaining activities to form and grow. The project brought together local partners in a learning partnership including private sector organisations, charities, library and museum services and individual tutors, who delivered learning opportunities both individually and collaboratively. ICT was a strong element of the learning programme. Learning was delivered through non-traditional methods and in non-traditional venues. Delivery encompassed a broad range of methods from open workshops and drop-ins, to learning in care settings such as residential homes and sheltered complexes. Countywide learning opportunities have now been mapped and a directory has been publicised.
