Gateshead Access Panel
12 disabled people came together in a group to visit historic buildings and contemporary buildings in the local area. These included museums, music centres, and parks and gardens. The learners were given guided tours and information on the history of each venue, events, community engagement activities, volunteer opportunities and access for disabled people. These visits allowed them to both explore and take part in the different cultural learning opportunities on offer within the buildings, and to compare access to different buildings for disabled people. Participants then became learning champions, promoting the value of learning to others and signposting them to learning opportunities.
