The Learning Together Volunteer Training Programme
Refugee Action Kingston
The Learning Together Volunteer Training Programme – provided initial learning to learners from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups whilst simultaneously developing volunteers' teaching skills to deliver learning to under-represented groups. The project aimed to create working partnerships across the London boroughs of Kingston and Richmond to promote adult learning in community settings principally among BME communities. There were four components to the project: volunteer training courses in two London boroughs; reflect ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) classes for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants taught by the volunteers; pilot of a One Stop Shop service in Richmond borough; ESOL class observations and follow-up workshop (these activities to be conducted in June 2010).
