The project ‘Know your Hadrian’s Wall Country’ used Informal Adult Learning to develop and then trial both a learning programme and web resource that enhances awareness of the historical and natural heritage of Hadrian's Wall to boost both the local economy and productive networking within the tourism sector. A series of 1-day seminars were delivered by the WEA, partnered with Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd and the Tyne and Wear Museums, making use not only of specific expertise, but of venues such as libraries, museum sites and a bath house. The project has developed online information from the seminars and other sources, available and updated, to inform tourists of new learning opportunities during their visit. A Facebook site was also created, forming the basis of an online network for organisations and individuals engaged in the tourism sector. The project promoted digital literacy skills, heritage knowledge and community cohesion.
