Informal Adult Learning in Northumberland

Northumberland County Council
The aim of the project was to develop a strong infrastructure for informal adult learning, led by Northumberland County Council, and showcase innovative practice across Northumberland. By involving partners who have not previously worked together (Libraries; Children’s Centres; Community Radio stations; The Open University; Woodhorn Museum; Archives and Country Park; Fire and Rescue; The National Trust and many smaller organisations from the Community and Voluntary working with under-represented groups such as migrant workers and Disability Support Groups) the project broadened access to resources, explored new delivery mechanisms and found new ways of getting people learning and connecting them to new and different learning experiences, delivered through diverse venues. The project increased opportunities for under-represented groups; particularly individuals with Learning Difficulties, learners from isolated rural areas and male carers. The project used two community radio stations that delivered introductory programmes in audio and visual production, and publicised all project activities.
