Sounding Out Your Heritage
GEM (Group for Education in Museums)
This project brought together older learners, many of whom were from sheltered housing schemes or residential care homes, to explore their heritage, share their social and historical knowledge, and produce community resources to encourage others to explore their heritage. The resources created included CDs, photo story books, posters, leaflets, a memory box and a sensory quilt. The project concluded with six events where learners’ work was celebrated and exhibited. In order to share lessons learned from the project, GEM has created a series of toolkits for professionals and learners.
