Gateshead Adult Learning and Skills
Gateshead (Ghd)Council, Adult Learning and Skills
Gateshead Wider Adult Learning worked in partnership with a wide range of organisations to deliver three main strands: to increase the number of men taking part in IAL; to improve the infrastructure of IAL in Gateshead; and to build peer support mechanisms in the community via Community Learning Champions. Around 60 learning programmes designed specifically to attract men into learning were publicised via prospectus, leafleting and poster campaigns, with the result that 466 men were successfully engaged in IAL, exceeding original targets. A searchable database of IAL courses was developed and a group of Community Learning Champions were trained, in order to enhance communication around learning opportunities and progression routes for potential new learners.
